Pastel Baby Quilt 42 x 42 inches

  1. 4 Inch squares sewn together in the center to create the main quilt
  2. Large petals around the border are hand cut, heat fused, then rough edge appliquéd
  3. The pink border holding it all together has just a simple decorative stitch in green thread.
  4. Hand quilted the center with a flower design using #10 white and blue cotton crochet thread
  5. The quilt back is just a simple sheet cut to the right size
I love this fabric I think I could make another 10 different quilts out of this fabric.

This one is for sale but it also is a good little quilt for the ugly huge foot stool.  Love the pastels for Spring time.

Spring Quilt Final Post.

Well Finally finished my spring quilt for my ugly muggly footstool.  In the pictures below you can see the "Spring" wording that I printed paper template letters, cut them out, heat fused the green fabric, traced the letters, then finally cut them out.  I then ironed them onto the white background, stitched down with sewing machine, and then around them with the Pearl Cotton #10 in green.

This is a nice size little quilt that could also be used for a baby play mat area on the floor or out on the grass, or as their nite nite blanket.  It started out as 42 x 42 but finally shrunk down to 40 x 40 inches after washed.

I would be glad to make somebody this little quilt but put a personalized name in the middle for them, or any where else on the quilt.  This same style could also be made in a rectangle shape.  Very versatile quilt top.

Please post a comment, anything you would like, suggestions, likes, dislikes, whateve's.

Have a great day all

Spring Quilt part 2

Hand Stitching.  Not much fun unless you are just sitting on the couch in the evening watching one of your favorite TV shows.

I am a bit ADHD before they had the term for it so sitting and just watching TV gets really boring.
This is the “Spring” mini quilt I have been working on for my large footstool.  It is almost done except for the stitching of the flowers in each corner down.  I think hand stitching was the way to go because I can be more precise about where I want the stitches to go.  This is the last part I need to do before this one is finished and ready for the wash and shrinkage.

I just use regular Crayola washable markers to mark the quilts on where I want and how I want the stitching to look.  Of course I forgot to take a picture of the flowers before the stitches but you can see with the markings and the stitching how it looks.

Big Stitching Red, Black, and White

Found out yesterday that I need to get an Angiogram for my foot that was injured a year ago and still has not completely healed.  Apparently there is a blockage near the injury site.

Sooo… I can’t sit in my sewing chair too long or stand for very long at all because it hurts too much.  I have been spending a lot of time on my couch for the last year.  I will be so glad when this is finally fixed.

I knew I needed to get another red, black, and white baby quilt for sale again.  I had the base top ready but heat fused the “curved teardrops” down and have been “big stitching” around them today using variegated pearl cotton #10.

In the past I have done the “big stitching” through all three layers of the quilt.  Today I wanted to try it with just the quilt top and see how that goes.  WOW can I just say it is a whole lot easier to hand sew through one layer than it is three.

Have a great weekend everybody.

Easter Egg Wall Hanging part 1

Here is an Easter Egg wall hanging I have been working on for sale.  The Easter Eggs and "Happy Easter" wording was already hand cut and heat fused down.  Today all I did was sew down the 3 eggs in similar colored Rayon (shiny) embroidery thread.  Hopefully tomorrow I will get the letters sewn down and a some kind of quilting done, I am thinking of swirly with flowers in between the swirls.

Spring Mini Quilt part 1

Today I am working on two different projects.  The first is a footstool quilt, at least that is what I call it.  I have one of those huge not so nice looking tan microfiber 3 ft x 3 ft footstools that sits in the center of the even larger U shaped couch, so I like to make little quilts to change up the look every now and then.  Have had a winter mini quilt on there since before Christmas and it is about time for a change I think.

The pictures did not come out as good as I thought they would, terrible lighting in my sewing room but here they are.

You can see I have some small circles in a light green Rayon thread for the quilting, but only on the white.  I want the wording and the "Curved Teardrop Flowers" to stand up a little above the white section of the quilt.

Here you can see a few of the "Curved Teardrop Flowers" together.  I used a medium green pearl cotton #10.  Not sure where I purchased it put they can be purchased at any craft store and most Walmart's.  I like to call the stitches "Big Stitching", I like the way it make certain elements stand out, kinda like look at me.

I did a raw edge applique on the mini quilt.  I used Heat n' Bond.  In the past I have used Pellon 810, I think it is was called, that brand of double sided fusing would not even hold on long enough for me to sew down all my applique's.  I do like the fact that once it is washed you can not even tell that there is any fusing at all.  I want to see what Heat n' Bond does after it is washed, will it be noticeable and still or like it is not even there.
The raw edge applique is nice because I like the way the edges of the fabric frays a little to give a little more uniqueness.

What I basically finished on the mini quilt today was the green circle quilting, tomorrow I will get the binding on, but I still have little mini flowers in the corners that I need to stitch down, trying to decide if I want to try and sew them down (messy so small) or hand sew them down.  Hand sew will probably win out.

I will post again when more is done on this Spring Mini Quilt.  I am also going to use it as a template that somebody can request to have their child's name appliqued in the center if they want.  Or just want the flowers all over.

Ta Ta for now.

King Size Quilt try #2

Here you can see what a pile 500 4.5 inch x 4.5 inch squares look like sewn into 4 by 4 blocks.

This is try number 2 for me on a king size quilt.  The first top I made (which we are using) shrank so much that it is the perfect size for a Queen size bed now.

The first King size quilt was so intense it wore me out.  It was a curvy log cabin, with all the strips being 1.5 or 1 inch.  I am not sure I will ever go there again.  So I will be making this one with a lot bigger pieces of fabric.

Well this one I think will be one that I can back to here and there when I don't have anything else going on probably.
